Announcing our 2024 shows!

It’s officially that time of year. The sun is out (more often than not), the tourists are flooding into town, and everyone’s thinking to themselves, “gosh, I wonder what my old friends the Midsummer Ensemble are up to this year?” Well, wonder no longer! We’re officially back in action and we’re so excited to share what we’ve been cooking up with you.

In this, our third year as an ensemble, we are putting on not one but TWO shows!

The Summer Showcase

July 6th at 7:00pm (doors at 6:30pm)
at the Broadway Playhouse (526 Broadway, Santa Cruz, CA)

For one night only, a splendid collection of seven short scenes directed by an assortment of ensemble members. These scenes cover a broad range of territories; they’re funny, dramatic, poignant, sourced from contemporary works and hundred-year-old public domain stories. There’s even a few original works by playwrights in the ensemble.

This is a free event (donations welcome), so we are not selling any tickets in advance.

Trap by Stephen Gregg

August 9th, 10th, 15th, and 16th at 7:00pm (doors at 6:30pm)
August 11th and 18th at 2:00pm (doors at 1:30pm)

at the Broadway Playhouse (526 Broadway, Santa Cruz, CA)

Directed by Lu Ludington and Yarrow Sifry (the directors of last year’s production of Macbeth), this one-act horror play details the incomprehensible events that took place last year in Menachap, California, when every audience member at a local play fell unconscious… except one. Using interviews with witnesses, loved ones, first responders, and the investigators pursuing the case, Midsummer Ensemble brings the story of the strange event to life, documentary-style. But as the strands weave together into an increasingly dangerous web, it becomes clear that this phenomenon might not be entirely a thing of the past. Unnerving, exhilarating, and wildly inventive, you’ve never walked into anything quite like Trap.

Tickets are not on sale yet, but when they are, you will be able to get them here.

And there you have it! Looking forward to seeing you all in the theatre.
